I didn’t intend to buy many souvenirs of the abdication of Queen Beatrix and the investiture of King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands. I don’t have too much space in my house and don’t want to spend much money on them. There are so many of them, and often they are not interesting at all, or very funny, but not really something you’d really wish to have. Lots of orange t-shirts with funny texts too, coins and stamps. If you want to see what is there, just have a look at Wilbert Slooijer’s Facebook page Troonwisselsouvenirs.
However I have so far ended up buying myself two Curver deco boxes at Blokker (see for all their souvenirs here), a tin with Wilhelmina peppermint with all eight Dutch monarchs on it (the eight one is not Louis Napoleon, but Queen Regent Emma), and one with nice Davelaar cookies. And of course some magazines. There is the unique “Willem-Alexander”, with wonderful and interesting reports about the new King and Queen and their family. The new Vorsten Royale has a “morphing” cover, and I am sure the next issue about the 30th of April will even be better.
